Softball Game Preview: Williamson Warriors vs. Montgomery Red Raiders

The Williamson Warriors will challenge the Montgomery Red Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Williamson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.9 runs per game this season.

Williamson is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 19 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Towanda on Thursday. They fell just short of the Black Knights by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Warriors have suffered since April 14, 2024.

Kenna Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Williamson saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alexis Sprague, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Montgomery, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They skirted past Bucktail 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Red Raiders have posted since March 26th.

Montgomery also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Ava Hartman gave up only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up ten Ks.

Montgomery's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Williamson, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-7.

Williamson took their win against Montgomery in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 9-2 score. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Red Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
