Baseball Game Preview: Monterey Plainsmen vs. Lubbock-Cooper Pirates

For the second straight game, Monterey will face off against Lubbock-Cooper. The Plainsmen will host the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Monterey has struggled recently with four defeats in a row, while Lubbock-Cooper will arrive with seven straight wins.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Monterey's offense. They lost 8-0 to Lubbock-Cooper on Tuesday.

Monterey saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joaquin Maldonado, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double was Maldonado's first of the season.

Lubbock-Cooper's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-10. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Monterey, their loss dropped their record down to 5-24-1.
