Basketball Recap: Charlotte Christian Comes Up Short

Charlotte Christian lost against Cannon back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Charlotte Christian Knights came up short against the Cannon Cougars, falling 88-62. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 303rd, while the Cougars are ranked 73rd).

Despite the loss, Charlotte Christian still got an impressive performance from Cooper Solomon, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 25 points and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Solomon a new career-high in points. Liam Parker also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Leading Cannon to victory were Evan Ingram and Sean Nix. Ingram shot 5-for-5 from long range and dropped a double-double on 31 points and 11 boards, while Nix dropped a double-double on 25 points and 13 rebounds. Nix is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last eight games he's played. Another player making a difference was Matthew Sancho-Joseph, who posted nine points and five boards.

Charlotte Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-14 record this season. Their recent woes sure aren't a result of their performance when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy: their three-point shooting accuracy was 31.6% in those games and 27% outside of them. As for Cannon, they pushed their record up to 11-8 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Charlotte Christian didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 81-75 defeat against Charlotte Latin on the 24th. Cannon has also already played their next game, an 82-80 loss against Charlotte Country Day School on the 24th.
