Basketball Recap: Cleveland Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with La Cueva

On Thursday, Cleveland faced La Cueva in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Cleveland Storm fell just short of the La Cueva Bears by a score of 66-64. It was the first time this season that the Storm let down their fans at home.

Tre Cowles had an outrageously good game for La Cueva as he went 8 of 13 on his way to 21 points. Cowles' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Hunter Butler was another key player, going 7 for 11 en route to 15 points and five boards.

Cleveland's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-5. As for La Cueva, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-7.

Cleveland didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, an 84-75 win against Hobbs on the 18th. As for La Cueva, they are taking a road trip to take on Eldorado at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. La Cueva knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Eldorado likes a good challenge.
