Basketball Recap: Old Plank Christian Academy's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

After a string of 13 wins, Old Plank Christian Academy's good fortune finally ran out on Monday. They were outmatched by the St. Johns Country Day Spartans and fell 68-38. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Defenders have suffered since November 21, 2024.

Several Defenders players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jenna Jiannuzzi, who posted ten points and six boards. Jiannuzzi is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Sophia Bowdre was another key player, putting up six points.

St. Johns Country Day found their leader in freshman Kendall Proffitt, who went 10 for 19 from beyond the arc on her way to 50 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Proffitt has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Mejias, who put up 12 points and six assists.

Old Plank Christian Academy's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-4. As for St. Johns Country Day, they have been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Global Outreach Charter Academy the next time they take the court. St. Johns Country Day will head out to face Global Outreach Charter Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Old Plank Christian Academy will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
