Baseball Recap: Owensboro Catholic Takes a Loss

Owensboro Catholic dropped their record down to 17-13 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers by a score of 4-3. Surprisingly, this marked the Aces' fifth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

Owensboro Catholic got a good showing from Myles Grant, who tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. That's the fewest earned runs Grant has allowed since back in April.

On the hitting side, Owensboro Catholic saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brady Atwell, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Breckinridge County, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-9 record this season. Four seems to be a good number for they as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Breckinridge County's side, the team relied heavily on Leland Board, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI Board has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Adam Howell, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Owensboro Catholic will host Hancock County at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.33 runs per game on average), something the Aces will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Breckinridge County, they will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Grayson County at 5:30 p.m.
