Basketball Recap: Bellevue West Drops Highest Score of Season Against Fremont

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bellevue West). They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat the Fremont Tigers 88-47. Given the Thunderbirds' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the Tigers are ranked 189th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bellevue West's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Stevie Harley, who posted 13 points along with eight rebounds and four blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylee Wharton, who to rack up 21 points.

Bellevue West was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in five consecutive matches.

Loss or not, Fremont got some senior leadership from Jenna McClain and Kate Denker. McClain put up 21 points and five boards, while Denker on her way to 16 points and five rebounds. Denker has become a key player for Fremont: the team is 3-1 when she posts at least 15 points, but 4-16 otherwise.

Bellevue West pushed their record up to 15-8 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points over those games. As for Fremont, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-17.

Looking ahead, Bellevue West will be playing in front of their home fans against Benson at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bellevue West is facing Benson at the right time seeing as Benson is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Fremont, they will head out to take on Bellevue East at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
