Softball Game Preview: Lockwood Tigers vs. Rich Hill Tigers

Lockwood will face off against Rich Hill at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Rich Hill took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Lockwood, who comes in off a win.

Lockwood is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Missouri's top teams: Stockton, who was ranked 13th at the time (Lockwood was ranked 20th). Lockwood had just enough and edged out Stockton 3-2 on Monday.

Kallie Griffin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Lockwood secured the victory behind a pair of hitters. One of them was Reese Whitesell, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Rich Hill was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of Midway.

Lockwood pushed their record up to 17-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Rich Hill, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.

Lockwood took their win against Rich Hill in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 22-5 score. Does Lockwood have another victory up their sleeve, or will Rich Hill turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
