The Gladwin Flying G will take on the Ogemaw Heights Falcons at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gladwin has given up an average of 13.7 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
On Tuesday, Gladwin wound up with the same score they had in their last game (13-12), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Liz Winchester led a balanced group of hitters, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Addison Tyslicky was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, Ogemaw Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They lost 10-0 to Standish-Sterling.
Somer Sappington spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on nine hits.
At the plate, Ogemaw Heights saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was MaKenzie Benjamin, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double was Benjamin's first of the season.
Gladwin's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-5. Those road losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.7 runs over those games. As for Ogemaw Heights, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-4.
Gladwin's speedy runners might be the difference in Thursday's match. The Flying G's have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.8 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Ogemaw Heights, though, as they've been averaging only 0.8 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Gladwin continue to outrun the ball?
