Basketball Recap: Lawrence Upper Takes a Loss

Lawrence Upper was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They took a blow against the Lake Ridge Academy Royals, falling 56-22. The Lions were down 47-16 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Despite the loss, Lawrence Upper had strong showings from Nohla Marbley, who posted 12 points, and Kayla Ponyard, who scored ten points. That was a full 45.5% of Lawrence Upper's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Lake Ridge Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kathryn Krueger led the charge by going 7 of 15 en route to 17 points. Krueger has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Zaya Battur, who earned nine points in addition to seven boards and six steals.

Lawrence Upper's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Lake Ridge Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-9 record this season.

Lawrence Upper has already played their next contest (against Non Varsity Opponent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lake Ridge Academy will challenge Harding at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
