Baseball Game Preview: De Anza Dons vs. Pittsburg Pirates

The De Anza Dons will take on the Pittsburg Pirates at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. De Anza has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with five straight defeats, while Pittsburg will come in with four straight wins.

On Thursday, De Anza didn't have quite enough to beat St. Patrick-St. Vincent and fell 7-6.

Meanwhile, Pittsburg earned a 7-3 victory over Washington on Saturday. With that win, the Pirates brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Santino Valle looked comfortable as he tossed 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Diego Deluna was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Devin Simonton, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

Pittsburg pushed their record up to 4-0 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.9 runs over those games. As for De Anza, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

De Anza took their win against Pittsburg when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-1. Will De Anza repeat their success, or does Pittsburg have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
