Baseball Preview: Daviess County Panthers vs. Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers

Daviess County is 8-2 against Breckinridge County since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Panthers will welcome the Fighting Tigers at 5:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Daviess County beats Breckinridge County with six runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matchups with that exact score. The Panthers came out on top against Christian County by a score of 6-1 on Saturday. The game was the first time the Panthers have beaten the Colonels on their field since March 9, 2017.

Cameron Rickard made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Rickard wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brody Brubaker, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. That's the most stolen bases Brubaker has posted since back in March.

Breckinridge County not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 14th (when they won 18-2). They blew past Owensboro 18-7. The result was nothing new for the Fighting Tigers, who have now won six contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Like Daviess County, Breckinridge County also got a great game from a two-way player: Connor Willis. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Breckinridge County is 6-2 when Willis allows two or fewer earned runs, but 4-5 otherwise. Willis was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI.
