Softball Recap: Homer Takes Down Ranked Redington

Homer faced Redington in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Mariners beat the Huskies by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 14-6. The win continues a trend for the Mariners in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won seven in a row.

Keagan Niebuhr made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off two hits. Niebuhr was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Natalie Hinsberger was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Amakah Stineff was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Homer always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Homer's record now sits at 4-7. As for Redington, their defeat was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-10.

Homer wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 17-5 loss against Soldotna on the 5th. As for Redington, they will venture away from home to take on Palmer at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
