Softball Recap: Santa Fe Comes Up Short

Santa Fe had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped down to 7-15 to make it four. They lost 12-1 to the La Cueva Bears. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bears this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-8 on Saturday.

Santa Fe saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriella Chavez, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for La Cueva, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 15-7. Considering they have won 12 matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On La Cueva's side, Alyssa Hunt spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks. Hunt has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Brooklyn Eardley was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. What's more, she posted two doubles, the most she's had since back in March. Hailey Silva was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Santa Fe will square off against Eldorado at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Demons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for La Cueva, they will face off against Rio Rancho at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
