Basketball Game Preview: Matanzas Pirates vs. Seabreeze Sandcrabs

The Matanzas Pirates will challenge the Seabreeze Sandcrabs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Matanzas comes in on three and Seabreeze on four.

Last Monday, Matanzas got the win against Clay by a conclusive 65-44.

Alexander Davis continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 24 points and 17 boards. The contest was his eighth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of La'Darien Baker, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 14 rebounds.

Matanzas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Seabreeze blew past Halifax Academy, posting a 70-24 victory. That looming 70-24 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Sandcrabs yet this season.

Matanzas has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.9 points per game. As for Seabreeze, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-10.

Matanzas came up short against Seabreeze when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 52-46. Thankfully for Matanzas, John Dunlap (who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 boards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
