Softball Game Preview: Ravenscroft Ravens vs. Durham Academy Cavaliers

The Ravenscroft Ravens are taking a road trip to challenge the Durham Academy Cavaliers at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday. Ravenscroft has given up an average of 18.2 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

It was a Battle of the Birds when Ravenscroft duked it out with GRACE Christian on Tuesday. The Ravens lost 14-0 to the Eagles. The match marked the first time this season in which the Ravens were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Durham Academy narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Neuse Christian Academy 8-7. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cavaliers.

Stella Teis was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.4 strikeouts per game. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Durham Academy let Claire Lynch and Whitney Wiles run wild. Lynch scored a run and stole three bases while going 4-for-4, while Wiles scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those three stolen bases gave Lynch a new career-high. Lillian Dardani also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Durham Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Durham Academy now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Ravenscroft, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-7.

Ravenscroft took their win against Durham Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 23-12 score. Will the Ravens repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
