Softball Game Preview: Morehead Panthers vs. Southwest Guilford Cowboys

The Morehead Panthers will head out to challenge the Southwest Guilford Cowboys at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Morehead can't be to happy about their upcoming road contest considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Wednesday. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northern Guilford.

Morehead saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lily Clark, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

Meanwhile, Southwest Guilford gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past Wheatmore 14-4. The high-scoring effort was just what the Cowboys needed considering they were shutout in their previous match.

Trystan Harris was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. Harris was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-4.

In other batting news, Aniya Harris was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Makayla Stefanik was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.

Morehead took their win against Southwest Guilford in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 13-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Morehead since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
