Softball Game Preview: Mason Comets vs. Hamilton Big Blue

Mason is 9-1 against Hamilton since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Comets will look to defend their home field against the Big Blue at 5:00 p.m. One thing working in Mason's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.

Mason's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Colerain. The result was nothing new for the Comets, who have now won six matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Sadie Hayes made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that she has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Mason got a big performance out of Avery Clayton, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three hits gave Clayton a new career-high. Morgan McBrayer was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Mason always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Hamilton came up short against Lakota East on Monday and fell 6-3. The Big Blue have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mason now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Hamilton, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Mason got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2023 against Hamilton by a conclusive 11-5 score. Will the Comets repeat their success, or do the Big Blue have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
