Softball Recap: Corner Comes Up Short

If Corner was riding high fresh off their 18-0 takedown of Center Point last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Corner Yellow Jackets fell just short of the Sumiton Christian Eagles by a score of 5-4 on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Adyson Brown was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Adalyn Owens, who scored a run while going 1-for-4.

Even though they lost, Corner hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most two strikeouts in three consecutive matches.

Corner has been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-10-1 record this season. Sumiton Christian pushed their record up to 9-6 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Corner wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 6-0 defeat against West Point on the 14th. As for Sumiton Christian, they have also already played their next match, an 8-3 victory against Tishomingo County on the 14th.
