Basketball Recap: Jarrell Finds Playoff Glory Versus Robinson

With a playoff win on the line, Jarrell rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They walked away with a 50-42 win over the Robinson Rockets. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while the Rockets are ranked 479th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Jarrell found their leader in sophomore Aniya Taylor, who posted 20 points. That makes it six consecutive games in which Taylor has scored at least a third of Jarrell's points. Another player making a difference was Erica Taylor, who had 11 points and three steals.

Jarrell has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 18 of their last 19 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 29-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.4 points over those games. As for Robinson, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 15-14 record this season.

Looking ahead, a feisty cat fight will be fought as the Cougars duke it out with the Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Smithville comes in on four and Jarrell on seven. Robinson does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
