Baseball Recap: Plum Extends Winning Streak to Eight

Plum had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They came out on top against the Gateway Gators by a score of 6-1. That's two games straight that the Mustangs have won by exactly five runs.

The team relied heavily on Connor Wilson, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ryan Lafferty, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.

Plum's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Gateway, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.

Looking ahead, Plum is taking a road trip to challenge Greater Latrobe at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Mustangs 3.9, the Wildcats 3.9) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Gateway, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Connellsville at 4:00 p.m. The Gators' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
