Basketball Recap: Griffith Triumphs

Griffith won the last time they faced Hammond Morton and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Griffith Panthers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hammond Morton Governors, sneaking past 53-51.

Griffith had a senior duo take command as Zamel Murray posted eight points in addition to nine rebounds and four steals and Jatin Flowers earned 12 points and six boards. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Murray. Jakhari Mackey was another key player, putting up nine points.

Despite the defeat, Hammond Morton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Michael Woods went 12-for-17 en route to 26 points and seven boards. The contest was Woods' third in a row with at least 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of LeBron Hill, who went 5-for-7 to rack up 11 points and seven rebounds.

Griffith's record is now 12-8. As for Hammond Morton, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-14.

Griffith has already played their next matchup, a 66-35 victory against Highland on the 13th. As for Hammond Morton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 77-55 win against Calumet New Tech on the 13th.
