Basketball Recap: White Pine Skates Past Laughlin with Ease

White Pine's game on Saturday was close up to the half, which is when they kicked things up a notch. They really took it to the Laughlin Cougars for the full four quarters, racking up a 51-22 win. The Bobcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 23 points or more this season.

White Pine found their leader in sophomore Brenley Skadburg, who went 11 for 22 on her way to 29 points along with seven boards and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Skadburg has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amaia Shedd, who posted six points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

White Pine smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.

Valeria Quintero and AmorA ThomAs certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Quintero earned nine points and three steals, while Thomas scored six points along with five boards and five steals. That was a full 40.9% of Laughlin's points, marking the fifth time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Alexandra Arellano, who had four points.

White Pine is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.0 points per game. As for Laughlin, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.

White Pine will square off against GV Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Laughlin, they will face off against Sandy Valley at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Laughlin is facing Sandy Valley at the right time seeing as Sandy Valley is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
