The Avonworth Antelopes will face off against the Penn Cambria Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Avonworth comes in on 13 and Penn Cambria on four.
Avonworth is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 30-6 margin over Imani Christian Academy. The result was nothing new for the Antelopes, who have now won 12 contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Luca Neal was his usual excellent self, rushing for 103 yards and one score on only 13 carries, while also picking up 63 receiving yards.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Avonworth proved: they limited Imani Christian Academy to a paltry 2.4 yards per carry. The Antelopes' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.3.
Avonworth didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Jack Crawford, Gavin McDowell, Romello Harris-Blanchard, and Jaden Jones picked up one apiece.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Penn Cambria duked it out with Sharon on Friday. The Panthers managed a 12-7 victory over the Tigers. The 12-point effort marked the Panthers' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
The critical scores for Penn Cambria came from Grant Gides and Evan Latterner.
Avonworth's record now sits at 13-0. As for Penn Cambria, their record is now 12-2.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Avonworth has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 230 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Penn Cambria struggles in that department as they've been averaging 241.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Avonworth beat Penn Cambria 16-6 when the teams last played back in November of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Panthers' Gavin Harrold, who rushed for 80 yards and one TD on only 11 carries. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Antelopes to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
