Basketball Game Preview: Idalia Wolves vs. Weldon Valley Warriors

The Idalia Wolves will square off against the Weldon Valley Warriors at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Idalia is coming into the contest hot, having won their last 11 games.

Last Saturday, Idalia beat Fleming 52-41.

Jaylyn Kechter continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double with 21 points and 13 rebounds. That's the most points she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Krista Wieser, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and ten boards.

Idalia smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Weldon Valley lost to Lone Star on the road by a 52-34 margin on Saturday. The Warriors haven't had much luck with the Longhorns recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Idalia will have to contain Annie Onufrak as she made an impact in Weldon Valley's last game. She had six points in addition to ten rebounds and five steals. Onufrak has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last four times she's played. Isabella Petrino was another key player, putting up 11 points and four steals.

Weldon Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 10-13. As for Idalia, their win bumped their record up to 19-4.

Everything went Idalia's way against Weldon Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2016, as Idalia made off with a 54-31 victory. Does Idalia have another victory up their sleeve, or will Weldon Valley turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
