Basketball Game Preview: Amelia Academy Patriots vs. Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints

The Amelia Academy Patriots will venture away from home to face off against the Nansemond-Suffolk Academy Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Amelia Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63.2 points per game this season.

Amelia Academy is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Steward last Monday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Patriots were dealt a 99-56 defeat at the hands of the Spartans. The Patriots were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 52-29.

Despite the loss, Amelia Academy got top-tier performance from Abdoul Tahirou, who dropped a double-double with 29 points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, Tahirou is now averaging an impressive 17.8 points per game. Another player making a difference was Vayden White, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, Nansemond-Suffolk Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They fell 53-44 to Brunswick Academy.

Amelia Academy will need to focus on slowing down Sebastian Mitchell, one of several Nansemond-Suffolk Academy players who made an impact when they last played. He went 9-for-19 en route to 22 points along with eight boards and five steals. Jayden Stafford was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to eight rebounds and seven steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Amelia Academy fell to 3-1. As for Nansemond-Suffolk Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-2.
