Baseball Game Preview: Mount Union Trojans vs. Faith Christian

The Mount Union Trojans will challenge Faith Christian on Monday. Mount Union will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Mount Union is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Tri-Valley 4-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since April 1st.

Cody McClain made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other pitching news, Mount Union got a great performance from Davin Yocum as he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Yocum has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 19 consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Jamon Ranck and Dylan Shawver did most of the damage at the plate: Ranck went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Shawver went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Shawver a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Maddox Hobbs, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Meanwhile, Faith Christian made easy work of South Williamsport on Thursday and carried off an 11-4 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for Faith Christian.

Mount Union's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Faith Christian, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
