Baseball Game Preview: West Nassau Warriors vs. Beachside Barracudas

The West Nassau Warriors will take on the Beachside Barracudas at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. West Nassau's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Beachside's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

West Nassau fell victim to Baldwin and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 1-0. The Warriors' loss signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Beachside). They never let Orange Park get on the board and left with a 16-0 win on Wednesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Barracudas with their most commanding win of the season.

Brennan Monaco was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single walk, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February of 2024.

In other pitching news, Wyatt Winget and Cohen Cox dominated on the mound. Winget pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Cox pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Cox a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Zack Gwaltney, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Phillip Furukawa, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

West Nassau's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Beachside, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-13.
