Recap: Burbank Titans vs. Monterey Trail Mustangs
It was a good run, but the Burbank Titans unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Friday. Their tough 86-64 defeat to Monterey Trail might stick with them for a while. Burbank has not had much luck with Monterey Trail recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Burbank's loss came despite strong showings from Michael Butcher and Paris Clay. Butcher scored 17 points along with four steals, while Clay scored 20 points along with two steals. Clay has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Markus Butcher, who scored eight points along with ten rebounds.
Monterey Trail got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brandon Gibson Jr out in front who scored 26 points along with eight rebounds and six assists. Gibson Jr has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last 15 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ahzeil Franklin, who scored 21 points along with nine rebounds.
Burbank's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-6. As for Monterey Trail, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-1.
Burbank will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Kennedy at 7:30 p.m. Kennedy is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Monterey Trail, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Branson at 1:00 p.m. on January 20th. Branson has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 338 points over their last five contests.
