Football Recap: McMichael Comes Up Short + How To Watch

McMichael had lost five straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped down to 2-2 to make it six. They were outmatched by the Rockingham County Cougars and fell 50-18. The Phoenix lost against the Cougars in their previous head to head back in August of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 22-12 score last time.

Despite the loss, McMichael still got an impressive performance from Brayden Dalton, who picked up 102 receiving yards and one TD. Ja'Keis Vernon made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

As for Rockingham County, they moved to 2-3 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. They not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since October 11, 2024 (when they won 42-0).

Luke Strittmatter was his usual excellent self, rushing for 147 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 9.2 yards per carry, and also throwing for 154 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes.

McMichael didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 50-26 defeat against Southwestern Randolph on the 26th. Rockingham County has also already played their next game (against Walkertown), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
