Baseball Recap: Mt. Eden Takes a Loss

Mt. Eden had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 12-12 to make it four. They came up short against the San Leandro Pirates, falling 8-2. The Monarchs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Pirates earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

Mateo Romo was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Cristian Alvarenga was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for San Leandro, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games.

On San Leandro's side, Ky Lenn Smith looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Smith has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Stanley Acevedo, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kai Velez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As of now, neither Mt. Eden nor San Leandro have any future games scheduled.
