Volleyball Recap: Liberty Falls Despite Big Games from Tyler Guardado and Ashtyn Collier

It was a good run, but Liberty unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell 3-1 to the Paloma Valley Wildcats. The Bison were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

Liberty started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 16-25, 25-17, 25-21, 29-27.

Ashtyn Collier and Tyler Guardado certainly did their best on Wednesday to avoid the loss. Collier had 31 assists and six digs, while Guardado had three digs and three blocks. Guardado is also on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now posted 13 or more in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jeremy Mallabo, who had 19 digs.

Paloma Valley found their leader in sophomore Jayden Estrella, who had five digs and three aces. Those three aces set a new season-high mark for Estrella.

Liberty's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 6-1 and their overall record down to 22-10. As for Paloma Valley, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-10.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Liberty will face off against rival Valley View at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Paloma Valley is set to challenge their familiar foe Hemet at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday.
