Baseball Game Preview: Poway Titans vs. Carlsbad Lancers

The Poway Titans will head out on the road to square off against the Carlsbad Lancers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Poway is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

On Friday, Poway came up short against Rancho Bernardo and fell 7-4.

Owen Digenan was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jake Johnson made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs.

Meanwhile, Carlsbad fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against La Costa Canyon on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mavericks by a score of 2-1.

Hunter Dawson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, Carlsbad saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Johnson, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

Poway's record is now 6-14. As for Carlsbad, their record now sits at 12-8.

Poway couldn't quite get it done against Carlsbad in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 as they fell 7-2. Can the Titans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
