Basketball Recap: Amelia Academy Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Amelia Academy lost against Steward back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The Patriots had to suffer through a 99-56 loss at the hands of the Spartans. The loss was the Patriots' first of the season.

Despite the loss, Amelia Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Abdoul Tahirou dropped a double-double with 29 points and 13 rebounds. Those 29 points set a new season-high mark for Tahirou. The team also got some help courtesy of Vayden White, who posted ten points and five boards.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Steward to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryan Herndon, who dropped a triple-double with 17 points, ten rebounds, and ten assists. The contest was Herndon's third in a row with at least 17 points. Another player making a difference was Niles Mason, who went 8-for-11 to rack up 23 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Having lost for the first time this season, Amelia Academy fell to 3-1. As for Steward, their win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0.

Amelia Academy and Steward will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Patriots see the court they'll take on Nansemond-Suffolk Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 5th. As for Steward, their break will end when they face Fredericksburg Christian at 6:00 p.m. on the 4th.
