Football Game Preview: De Leon Bearcats vs. Wolfe City Wolves

The De Leon Bearcats will square off against the Wolfe City Wolves at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

De Leon is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Hamilton just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Friday. They were just a hair shy of victory and fell 27-26 to the Bulldogs.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Heston Jobe, who threw for 383 yards and four touchdowns while completing 73.5% of his passes. He has become a key player for De Leon: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least three passing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Jake Cooper was Jobe's top target, picking up 130 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Meanwhile, Wolfe City entered their matchup against Alvord on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wolves were outmatched by the Bulldogs and fell 62-28. The Wolves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-14.

De Leon's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-3. As for Wolfe City, their loss dropped their record down to 5-5.

De Leon was able to grind out a solid victory over Wolfe City in their previous meeting back in November of 2018, winning 31-20. Will the Bearcats repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
