Softball Recap: Whiting Oilers vs. Griffith Panthers
Whiting had lost six straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 6-8 to make it seven. They lost 7-0 to the Griffith Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-2 on Monday.
As for Griffith, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games.
For Griffith's part, Cheyanne Fant made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Fant has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brylie Bridges, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Addie Kubaszak was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Looking ahead, Whiting will take on Hammond Morton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Griffith, they will square off against Hammond Central at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday.
