Basketball Recap: Jefferson West Takes a Loss

Jefferson West lost against Hiawatha back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Jefferson West Tigers fell 52-44 to the Hiawatha Red Hawks. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Jefferson West lost, don't look at Harriet Dean. Despite the final result, she to rack up 23 points. The dominant performance also gave Dean a new career-high in shooting accuracy (73%). Addison Schwinn was another key player, putting up two points and six rebounds.

Hiawatha's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kylie Nelson, who posted 18 points along with five boards and four steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Nelson has scored at least a third of Hiawatha's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Twombly, who scored 12 points and eight rebounds.

Jefferson West's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Hiawatha, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-8.

We've got a battle between Tigers coming up. Atchison County will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Jefferson West surely won't give up without a fight. Hiawatha does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
