Preview: Commerce Tigers vs. Mineola Yellowjackets
The Commerce Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Mineola Yellowjackets at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
Last Friday, Commerce took a serious blow against Pottsboro, falling 34-6. It was the first time this season that Commerce let down their fans at home.
Mineola never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Rains last Friday. They managed a 35-30 win over the Wildcats.
Mineola's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Colton McMahon, who gained 134 total yards and three touchdowns, and Braydon Alley, who rushed for 248 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 10.3 yards per carry. Alley was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 50 yards.
Pottsboro's win bumped their season record to 8-1 while Commerce's defeat dropped theirs to 6-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Commerce has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 239.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mineola struggles in that department as they've been averaging 239.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Commerce came up short against Mineola in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, falling 42-38. Thankfully for Commerce, Dawson Pendergrass (who rushed for 360 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
