Softball Recap: North Monterey County Comes Up Short

North Monterey County extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 2-16 in the process. They fell 19-15 to the Carmel Padres. Even if the Condors couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Julia Oliva and Samantha Scharton did some serious damage despite the final result: Oliva went 3-for-5 with five RBI, three doubles, and two runs, while Scharton went 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Sofia Navarro, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Carmel, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games.

On Carmel's side, Lily Beals was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, five runs, and two RBI. Those five runs gave Beals a new career-high. Nicole Tapson was another key player, going 3-for-4 with five runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Monterey County will challenge King City at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Carmel, they will square off against Santa Teresa at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The last three games the Saints have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
