Valley Lutheran hadn't done well against Hayden recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Valley Lutheran Flames enjoyed a cozy 56-41 victory over the Hayden Lobos. The win was familiar territory for the Flames who have now won five matches in a row.

Valley Lutheran's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Caynan Chapman led the charge by dropping a double-double on 23 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Chapman has scored at least a third of Valley Lutheran's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gary Yang, who went 7 for 13 on his way to 18 points and seven boards.

Valley Lutheran smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Hayden's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyler Garner, who went 6 of 9 en route to 13 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Marcos Hong, who almost dropped a double-double on 12 points and nine boards.

Valley Lutheran pushed their record up to 15-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.6 points per game. As for Hayden, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-11.

Valley Lutheran didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-61 win against Dishchii'bikoh on the 1st. As for Hayden, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 61-53 loss against Cicero Prep Academy on the 31st.
