Baseball Game Preview: University Prep Jaguars vs. Excelsior Charter Eagles

For the second straight game, University Prep will face off against Excelsior Charter. The Jaguars will take on the Eagles at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. University Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.5 runs per game this season.

University Prep made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Excelsior Charter, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Jaguars put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 18-7 victory on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Jaguars considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Connor Byrom looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February.

On the hitting side, Angel Herrera was a standout: he scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He has become a key player for University Prep: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-4 otherwise. Jayden Castillo was another key player, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4.

University Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

University Prep's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Excelsior Charter, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-11.
