Basketball Game Preview: Deep Creek Hornets vs. Cox Falcons

After both having extra time off, the Deep Creek Hornets and the Cox Falcons will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Deep Creek is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 64.3 points per game this season.

Two weeks ago, Deep Creek might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Nansemond River an easy 75-51 win. The match marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Deep Creek got top-tier performance from Kamari Ricks, who almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Ricks has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Reggie Wyatt, who went 6 of 11 on his way to 13 points.

Even though they lost, Deep Creek smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Cox, who bounced back after a loss on the road back in December of 2024. They blew past Ocean Lakes, posting a 59-27 victory. The contest marked the Falcons' most dominant win of the season so far.

Cox moved to 3-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Deep Creek, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-4 record this season.
