The Rockwood Rockets are taking a road trip to square off against the Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Rockwood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Rockwood is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Windber on Thursday. They took a 6-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Ramblers.
Kalynne Ohler made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Berlin Brothersvalley had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Red Raiders a 9-0 shutout. Give the Mountaineers' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Elena Ritchey and Sam Walker made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Ritchey pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Walker didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Ritchey has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At the plate, Ritchey went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Walker went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Coral Prosser, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Elsie Barna, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
Berlin Brothersvalley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .419. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Meyersdale only posted a batting average of .045.
Berlin Brothersvalley pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.5 runs over those games. As for Rockwood, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.
Rockwood might still be hurting after the 14-2 loss they got from Berlin Brothersvalley in their previous meeting last Tuesday. Can the Rockets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
