Softball Recap: Irvington Preparatory Academy Takes a Loss

Irvington Preparatory Academy extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They lost 19-0 to Horizon Christian. Irvington Preparatory Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Horizon Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

As for Horizon Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-3. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.

For Horizon Christian's part, Victoria Kiger and Lucy Long made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Kiger pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Long tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Kiger has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Kiger got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three RBI and two runs, while Long went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and one double. That's the most RBI Kiger has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cambria Hathaway, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and two doubles. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Samantha Mikulla was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Irvington Preparatory Academy will square off against Riverside at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Horizon Christian, they will face off against Herron at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
