Softball Game Preview: Taylor Titans vs. Wabash Apaches

The Taylor Titans will square off against the Wabash Apaches at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Taylor comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Thursday just wasn't the day for Taylor's offense. They lost 13-0 to Clinton Prairie on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Wabash hadn't done well against Maconaquah recently (they were 1-7 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Apaches walked away with a 12-7 victory over the Braves.

Kalli Davis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over seven innings while giving up seven earned runs off 12 hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.

In other batting news, Andi Conliff was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Ava Lynn also deserves some recognition as she got her first hits of the season.

Wabash kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 4.7 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 9.

Wabash has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.2 runs over those games. As for Taylor, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-8.

Taylor might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Wabash when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
