Football Game Preview: Ellington Knights vs. Killingly Trailbazers

The Ellington Knights will head out on the road to square off against the Killingly Trailbazers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Ellington is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 39 points two weeks ago, they were much more limited against Rockville on Wednesday. They were dealt a 42-7 loss at the hands of the Rams. The Knights have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Aaron Ladr put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 90 yards and one TD on only six carries.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Killingly). They took their contest on Thursday with ease, bagging a 67-13 win over Woodstock Academy. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Trailbazers' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut football rankings (they are ranked second, while the Centaurs are ranked 111th).

Ellington better keep an eye on Hayden Allard. He was instrumental in Killingly's win, rushing for 109 yards and three touchdowns on only six carries. Another passer making a difference was Quinn Sumner, who threw for 85 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 71.4% of his passes.

Ellington's defeat dropped their record down to 7-3. As for Killingly, their victory bumped their record up to 10-0.

Wednesday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Ellington has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 149.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Killingly struggles in that department as they've been averaging 297.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Wednesday's game turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Ellington was taken down by Killingly 75-14 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Knights were down 69-0.
