Football Recap: King's Academy Comes Up Short Despite Drew Martinez's Big Defensive Game

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact King's Academy can now relate to. They fell 17-7 to Menlo School on Saturday. King's Academy hasn't had much luck with Menlo School recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

When it comes to explaining why King's Academy lost, don't look at Jaiden Flores. Despite the final result, he picked up 141 receiving yards and one touchdown. Flores was no stranger to the big play, connecting on a big catch that went for 52 yards.

Even if they lost, King's Academy's defense still kept up the pressure with six sacks. Leading the way was Drew Martinez with two. Justin Turner was another major factor on D, picking up a sack and making 11 total tackles (2.5 for loss).

The critical scores for Menlo School came from Trevor Van Der Pyl and Chuck Wynn.

King's Academy's loss dropped their record down to 9-2. As for Menlo School, the win made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 9-2.

King's Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Menlo School, they have already played their next contest, a 42-6 defeat against St. Ignatius College Preparatory on the 21st.
