Baseball Recap: Cherokee Gets the Win

Cherokee was handed a ten-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Rancocas Valley Red Devils, sneaking past 9-8. This was a revenge game for the Chiefs: when they faced off against the Red Devils back in April, they had to take a 4-3 defeat.

Brett Jackson made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-4. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Cherokee is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-12 otherwise.

In other batting news, Cherokee let Jake Nelson and Ryan Chiesa run wild. Nelson went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one double, while Chiesa went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Chiesa a new career-high. Cooper Burti was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Cherokee lost a few balls and finished the game with five home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Cherokee's victory bumped their record up to 10-13. As for Rancocas Valley, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-10-1 record this season.

Cherokee will challenge Cherry Hill West at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Chiefs surely won't give up without a fight. As for Rancocas Valley, they have already played their next game, an 11-6 victory against Northern Burlington on the 14th.
