Softball Recap: Haskell Takes Down West Texas in a Playoff Battle

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Haskell had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They put the hurt on the West Texas Comanches with a sharp 15-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won eight matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Paige Sheets made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Haskell got a massive performance out of Kayce Coleman, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Coleman has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Raegan Adkins, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Haskell kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 games they've averaged 10.4.

The win was the eighth in a row for Haskell, bringing their record up to 18-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.4 runs over those games. As for West Texas, their loss dropped their record down to 17-7-1.

Haskell will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Comanches: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
