It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Luella had no problem doing just that on Friday. In a tight contest that could have gone either way, they made off with a 25-24 victory over the Westover Patriots. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
Luella can attribute much of their success to Dylan Gwinn, who threw for 231 yards and two touchdowns while completing 77.3% of his passes. What's more, Gwinn also racked up 16 rushing yards, the most he's had since back in August. Another player making a difference was Dayqwon Curry, who rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Despite the loss, Westover saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dominique Ball rushed for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Ball is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 107 every time he's taken the field this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keyon Thomas, who threw for 133 yards and a touchdown while completing 72.7% of his passes.
